Nestled into the Umpqua Forest, Eugene, Oregon is a very busy college town that bustles about 24/7. A very rainy urban oasis in the middle of dense green forest. Within this town, among the unsuspecting human race, live vampires, just like anywhere else in the world. Currently staying on the Northern outskirts are a coven of governing vampires dedicated to the keeping of the Code. The Code is the vampire law that all vampires must abide. Of course, there are delinquents.
Live as a vampire or human in the world of Ashen Nights. Abide by the Code or break it and face the consequences. Create your own coven or your own empire... For the vampire, the whole world is a playground.

The Andaire Estate
Here reside the Andaire Coven. The Andaire Coven has been living here for only nine years. The have a more permanant home in Ireland that they return to every now and then.
The Andaire house is three stories tall, and has two underground levels. In essence, it is a five story building, with only three stories exposed. The floors of the top two floors are hardwood. The entry-level was stone-tiled. And the basement floors are first hardwood, then cement. The private living quarters of all Andaires are located on the very top floor. The second level contain rooms of random purposes. Mostly for their various hobbies. There is a music room of which all kinds of intruments are hung, in a very organized fashion, on the walls. Larger instruments are displayed grandly. Stagelights, on Vivian's request, hang from the ceiling. In another room, a dance studio is has been built. Complete with floating floor, ballet barre, and walls lined in mirrors. Another is a martial arts room. Vivian spends a lot of her time in this room, sometimes sparring with Aries. And yet, another room is filled with morrocan-style pillows and a padded floor. This is a vary comfortable room. Underground is where vampire records are held, a surveillance room, and varies other things used to keep things on track. The entry-level is where most of the living is done. A fully-working false kitchen is joined with the living room This room is massive. The entire floor is really one big room, pillers tower every now nad then to hold up the building. The room has couches and a huge enterainment center. It all looks very explensive. The house is mostly decorated in dark jewel-tones and darkwoods. The outside is very well manicured. The house is deep-set on the property, a very long lawn extends to tall gothic-looking iron gates at the front. The backyard extends for a long while, and contains a forge for working with metal and a large swimming pool/spa. (They enjoy the good life.)

Kioshi;
I stood, my back leaning against the smooth iron of the gates, just outside the Andaire Estate. No, I hadn't ventured in,.. yet. It was just, if I planned on meeting the big guy, this was my best bet. Or, at least, that would make sense.
I had the usual white T-shirt, baggy, blue jeans on. My black hair was nicely strewn everywhere on top of my head, bangs dangling in front of my dark eyes. It looked as if I had just gotten out of bed. But, that's just the way I normally looked. I liked to appeal to the younger crowd these days. Speaking of which, I had also decided on wearing eyeliner that day, leaving my black eyes even darker.
I held the smallest smirk on my pale toned face. Why had I come again? Was there any more reason than my simple curiosity to meet this man... to meet Aries? Yes. It was because of that girl from earlier; Larkin. She had sparked my attention on how the vampiric community was becoming eerily close to being discovered. I came here to chat with him about the issue. But, whether he showed up or not was another thing. Perhaps he was busy?
Ah well. I began to run over the situation in my head. I had met Larkin earlier on, and she announced she was only a hundred and five years old. She then announced she had self control, and maybe it was me just showing how old and naive I am, but I just couldn't believe it. Being so young and claiming to have that much control.
And if she claimed to have it, how many other young vampires believed they had it down? Not only that, but, how many vampires had entered the city in the past years? I often wondered how Aries kept track of allot of this stuff. He is the keeper of the code, after all, so, shouldn't he be keeping track of things such as this?
I shook my head slightly, folding my arms in front of my chest. I had no reason to hide myself from the sun as of now, for it was beginning to go down. In fact, it would be dark in a matter of minutes.
Things really can change, just like that..
[[Open to anyone, I just thought I'd make a post in the Andaire Estate. x3 What better way than to say you're waiting on the owner? But, Aries, if you would like to join, feel free. It was, after all, directed towards you.]]

I was in Emily's private room. I did not ask her, I just let myself in. I was looking for something she had among the many large rolls of fabric she had organized along the walls and somewhat scattered along the floor. I looked around the various sewing machines... around her bed, her bookshelf. That should of been the first place I looked, really.
I was growing irritated. Very irritated. I went back the the sewing machines by the windows. Emily's room was on the top floor, like all of ours, and had a three windows overlooking the front lawn. I did not notice anything on my first round about her room. But I noticed the figure at the gate on my second round. My eyes narrowed in. It was just Leo and I in the house. Aislinn, Vivian, and Emily went shopping. Aries went for a walk. I will see what this person wanted, but not without Leo.
I exited Emily's room and headed toward's my own but before I reached my door I entered the one previous to. "Leo?"
"Yes, Ev?"
"Someone is outside and I would like to have you follow me out to greet him." Though I said greet, my tone was heavy with irritation. Leo sighed, he had his nose burried in some car enthusiast's magazine, but got up off of his twin-sized bed nontheless. "Don't worry. I'm just as irritated." I told him. We then walked silently through hallways and down two flights of stairs and then finally to the front door... then outside.
Leo noticed my impatientness. "Hey. This place is a lot better than that city-sized castle shit we had back in Ireland." I was silent but, agreed with him anyways. It was a bit of a walk to get across the long front yard to the gate.
When we arrived at the gate I sighed. Allowing my irritation to flow from me. "Can I help you?" I asked. My tone cold and slightly sour. My big and strong Leo stood three feet behind me, arms crossed. Was he flexing to try to make himself look bigger? I hid a smirk.
ooc| Well... I thought I was in the mood to play Evelyn but as I started things started comming out all wrong. So I left the typos. I'll soon have Aries join in, though.

A small smile played across my lips when I heard the soft pitter patter of footsteps coming towards me. They didn't sound, or feel, like the person I was hoping they'd belong to though. I turned my head slightly, only to meet the gaze of a beautiful woman, and, and an equally handsome man. They looked rather.. irritated, but, it didn't phase me much.
I turned myself all the way around, the gate was the only thing separating us now. The smirk had faded into a gentle smile as the woman spoke. I was already trying to piece together her identity in my head. I knew the names of all the Andaire coven members, just, not the faces.
I remembered seeing Vivian earlier at Nachos Amigos, and she was with two other vampires outside. I was pretty sure the shorter one of the three was Aislinn though. So, that left Emily and Evelyn as the two possible candidates for the woman. I was sure Leo was the name of the male, for, he wasn't Albino, and so he wasn't Aries.
"I don't believe you could help me, either of you for that natter. But, thanks for trying." I said, a cheery grin on my face. Adding to her irritation was sort of, fun. "Excuse me, I'm Kioshi. You must be.. Evelyn?" I asked, taking a fifty/fifty chance of getting it right. I looked towards the male. He appeared to be.. flexing? Why would he need to look bigger to me? I was so scrawny, and definitely not strong. I smirked. "And you're Leo? Correct?" I asked, knowing the answer already.
"I was actually just waiting on Aries. Do you know where he is?" I asked, turning myself to lean against the iron bars again. I let my elbows droop over the other side.
[[That's fine. xP I've been having trouble finding muse for Kioshi lately. Dx]]

I stared at him. My eyes felt a little blank as I listened to his replies. This was time wasting, and I was not happy with it. But he knew my name. I guess I should get used to that eventually; people knowing my name. I also hated how comfortable he was with himself. He held the air of what older vampires did. My mere 73 years and Leo's 54 paled in comparison.
In all honesty, I was jealous of his collectiveness. His calm. "Yes. I am Evelyn and yes, he is Leo." I did not turn to look at Leo as a half-introduction may have called for. Still, I stared at the man who was inquireing about Aries. He turned to lean his back back on the bars, sticking his elbows through. That irritated me further.
"A walk. He could be gone for hours." I was about to turn and walk back inside the fortress-like house. But I knew Aries probably would not be happy if I turned away someone who was looking for him. If he did pose a threat, anyway, he looked small. I'll bet Leo would be more than capable of taking him down. I would let him do it, too. By himself. I did not like to get my hands dirty.
A human was walking toward us, on the sidewalk of which Kioshi was standing. Upwind. It made me nervous. Leo was not usually allowed into the front yard without what we called the "The Core;" Aislinn, Emily, and Vivian or Aries. As much as we did not like to admit it, Leo and I were still very new to this life, in vampire sense of time. It was one of the reasons we stuck together, related to each other a little easier than the others. And the human was still out of sight. But the smell tingled at my nose, hightend my senses, and my control waivered. I could only imagine what it was doing to Leo, he had such a hard time with control.
"Get inside." I told the stranger. My voice quickening slightly with a bit of urgency. "He has his cell on him. I'll give him a call." My hands undid the lock on the gate and I swung it open towards me. The gate made no sound.

Oh, how she was hating me right now. My quirky grin remained as my back scraped up against the iron bars. I must had interrupted something important, or, maybe she just chose not to like the first person she saw standing by her gate today? Who knows.
When she told me her name, I was happy with the fact that I had guessed right. It wouldn't have mattered if my guess was wrong or anything, I just liked being right, who didn't? There was a slight hesitation for a few moments, no one saying a word.
I simply remained on the bars, and she, well, she was probably wishing I wasn't there at the moment. Leo just seemed to be hanging out. I questioned why he was even there for a second. Probably at her request, I presume.
Then, she mentioned Aries was on a walk. I turned to look at her. "Hours? Really?" I asked, a sense of grief in my tone. I looked down the long sidewalk, no one in sight. Should I go home? Probably. But, who knows the next time I would actually feel like coming out here to the Coven? Ugh..
That's when I smelt it. A human. It must had only been a few hundred feet away, for it was still out of sight, yet clearly there. I felt no different, except for that lingering scent. I turned my attention towards the two. How old were they exactly? I knew their names, but nothing else about them.
Things had seemed to tense up a little. Maybe the smell was too much, or maybe, they were just young immortals still trying to perfect their self-control, the very reason I was there. I was about to ask if they were okay when Evelyn ordered me inside. Apparently not.
She inferred about Aries phone and then unlocked the gate. Not wanting to start something with the oncoming human, I quickly entered, following the two back inside their home.
"Exactly how old are you two anyways? That is, if you don't mind me asking?" I quirked a brow. I didn't need to know, it was just a trivial little thing.

Walking back to the door, the stranger asked us a question about our age. This question made me uneasy. He lifted a brow, still sliently smirking to himself. Was he hiding an inside joke? I glared slightly as I answered him. "Leo is fify-four years old. And myself, I am seventy three." I was not going to dive into conversation here. I'll leave all the talking to Aries, since he was the the being sought out here anyway.
He followed us inside. Still that calm and collected style that I hated. Leo walked beside me, never speaking a word. I opened one of the tall wooden double doors and let Leo in first, then I followed, stepping infront of Kioshi in a rude gesture. Then I waited for him to follow and shut the door behind us. Leo waited as the door clicked closed. I lead the way through the short hallway into our grand living room, which was nearly entirely composed of the the whole floor. There was a gathering of very dark-green colored couches grouped around a rather fine entertainment center, and I walked toward it. Leo made it there first, however, plopping himself very human teenage like on the couch and flipping the 92" plasma screen TV on. He started scrolling through the channels. I rolled my eyes as I continued through to the false kitchen. Everything worked, we just had no use for it. The cordless phone sat on the counter though, in it's charger. I picked it up and dialed. It rang twice before his dark Irish voice answered. It contrasted with my American 1930's era tone. Of course, the covnersation Kioshi would hear is one-sided.
My tone was a bit short, but I tried to give him the kind patience he had always given me. "We have a visitor seeking a visit with you." "Yes, just the two of us here." "Fine, thank you."
I turned back to the visitor, placng the phone back where I found it. "Aries is on his way home. He should be here in about ten minutes. Sit down and wait." I continued to stare at him for just a moment. He was small in his build. Which made me happy, in a way. I walked back over to Leo, with long but quick strides and sat next to him, nearly on him. To wait for Aries to come home.

When she spoke of their ages, I merely nodded. She really didn't want to talk to me, or atleast, she didn't want to talk at all. My small little grin remained on my face. It wasn't one of those, cheesy, fake grins. This one was the real deal. No, I wasn't happy about her being angry, or irritated, but, I wasn't about to let her mood get me down.
We continued on through the doors, and the scent of the human went away. Evelyn had made a few rude gesture, or, really.. she just kind of ignored me in the doorway, but, that was to be expected. These past few minutes with her and Leo taught me that, not everyone has to have a reason to hate you.
When we reached the family room, I watched as Leo plopped himself down on one of the dark-green couches and began to channel surf. Evelyn walked into their 'kitchen', and dialed the phone. I heard the one way conversation, and knew that Aries was coming.
When she came back out and told me to sit and wait, I did. Calmly, I sat down on the end of the one of the dark-green couches, crossing my legs in a manly way, even though we probably all knew I wasn't that manly"Thank-you." I said, directing it towards Evelyn. Now all I had to do is wait.

Aries
My trip home was uneventful. Nothing to write home about. Up the gates, across the lawn, through the door and the small hallway and I was in the living room. A feat completed so many times that the actions barely registered. I walked with grace, though nonchalantly. I had some mail in my hand I had picked up from the locked mailbox outside the gates. Bill... bill.. another bill. You would think after so many years of paying bills, and taxes upon bills and yet more bills. That eventually you might be exempt. Of course not. Never. It is not like we struggled anyway, like most vampires in the world, money was abundent.
I had walked passed the couches and sat the mail on a table. I quickly tasted the hostility eminanating from both Evelyn and Leo. I sighed. "My apologies." I told my guest. "These are far from winning awards in hospitality." Evelyn looked a bit annoyed. I smiled subtly at her expression. Stepping around the couch my two coven mates were sitting upon I picked up the remote that rested on the armrest so I can turn down the volumn of the TV. Leo was watching the race far too loudly to be pleasent. I am positive this was intentionall. Now Leo looked annoyed, they both rose without a word and walked off toward the corridor that hid the staircase. I shook my head as I eventually pressed the mute button on remote. The TV was left on, though. "Like taking care of children with those two." My ancient Irish accent was casual as I spoke. "You don't seemed bothered at all." Yes, I was relieved. Sometimes I felt like a father to two hormone-rampaging teenagers rather than, well... I did not think about it much. I stayed where I was though. A precaution, my friendly smile betrayed no intention of this. "I'm sure you already know of me. So let me know a little about you."

Ah; the Andaire Coven Leader was here. I could sense him outside. I'm sure the other two could as well. The wait for him to get here had been occupied by the television, and the never ending roars from the race car fans on the screen who seemed to have nothing better to do than to sit in a stadium and watch cars drive in circles all day long.
I managed to sit up and straighten out. Didn't want to be rude with bad posture. I flicked a few stray strands of hair out of my face before hearing the door close. Then, the tall, pale man walked in from the other room. He had a few letters in his hand, and I assumed they were just mail he had picked up from coming inside. After he placed them on the table, he apologized for his coven mates actions.
I smiled warmly, nodding slightly. "No need to apologize. They were,.. entertaining, to say the least." I traded glances with Evelyn before returning my stare back to Aries. I watched as he turned the television volume down, resulting in an unhappy Leo. Then, only a few moments later, the two from earlier walked off. Aries then muted the television completely.
"No worries. I can see where you're coming from. Of course, I haven't turned anyone, at least not yet, but, I'm sure two fledglings like them do need allot of attention." My tone was soft, because I didn't want him to think I was speaking badly about his coven mates.
He didn't move any closer after he had put down the mail. I suppose it was probably because of the fact that I was indeed a stranger, but I couldn't help but be myself, and so I stood. A short few steps was all that was needed to close the gap between us, and with my hand outstretched, I introduced myself. "I'm Kioshi Hibaru." I looked him in the eyes. "What is it exactly that you would like to know?" I grinned.

I smiled warmly at my visitor as I grasped his understanding of the two. I was not at all offended by his words about them. More often than not, the feeling was mutual. I could hear Evelyn and Leo's silent whispers floating lightly down the hidden spiral staircase. They were three stories up, and I could not make out words, but vampire ears were so gracefully sensitive. Their extange of words sounded like those of annoyance.
I stayed where I was and watched this vampire come towards me confidently. Sizing him up, I could see he was at first glance no threat at all. That does not mean tricks are absent. I have seen many a vampire look a certain way but perform in a manner than one would not even think of connecting the two. Though, as he extended his hand to me and introduce himself I took it and shook it with a firm grasp and quickly let go. I did not linger on hand-holding.
I sat down. Still standing while in simple conversation seemed a bit awkward. "Kioshi." I said, storing the name in my memory with the face attatched. "Well Kioshi, what brings you here? I understand pure curiousity is just as good a reason." My tone was light and relaxed as I spoke. I was no longer concerned with much of anything else but polite conversation and learning about the other.

I couldn't help but over hear the annoyance in the previous two's tones as they whispered while going up the stairs. It was amusing, how they thought of me as an annoyance. Maybe I was. Although, I don't see much of what I had done to deserve that title. Ah well.
Let them eat cake.
I smiled as Aries shook my hand, atleast he wasn't hostile. Atleast, if he was, he hid it very well. In fact, he seemed to be acting a bit too normal for being the head of this coven, and just meeting a new, potentially dangerous vampire.
I looked down over myself. Then again.. Maybe I was just a tad bit.. not threatening? Well, despite muscle, I had a sharp mind. It wouldn't take much for me to devise a plan to knock him off his throne, or atleast start a little war. But, that's not what I was here to do. Maybe some time in the future, if our views on each other became dim. As of now, Aries was turning out to be a pretty good guy.
Then the simple question as to why I was here rang a bell in my mind. Was my reason legit? Did it actually qualify as a good reason to have a meeting? Hm. Maybe I was just curious to see the Andaire Coven Leader's face. I smiled. "I came to discuss the Neophytes." I realized that half of the vampires I would be talking about weren't neophytes at all. In fact, I was just going to group them together and describe them as.. 'young'.
"I feel as if they are getting too cocky. I met one earlier today, she was only a hundred and five. She claimed to have self control, but I just can't bring myself to believe that." I shook my head mildly. "I don't know. Maybe I'm just afraid for them. For us.. If we are discovered.." I didn't finish my sentence. I would let him speak.
Re: && Then I W•rry « Reply #11 on Jul 1, 2008, 7:37pm »
I understood every word of his concern. My eyes fell to the floor slightly as I started speaking. "Ah yes, I understand this situation very well. And be it as it may, it is not just the young ones that grow overconfident. Why, just as I received the phone call from Evelyn to return home, I was speaking to another vampire. I could not pin-point his age exactly, but he was not young. He he was very cocky." I used his word. "Behavior of this sort is nothing I have not seen before. But the amount of it is something a little new." I was staring into space now. "Do they not see that our stealth is of the upmost importance and putting this at jeapordy could destroy everything. Imagine, Kioshi, if humans knew we existed. At first there would be panic and fear. Obviously, I would lose control as various sepretist groups take on the various human armies and destroy them. Imagine, once vast newborn vampire armies out of control and wild, which would surely happen, drinking up the last of the human race... What would become of us then? Once all life that matters to our survival ceases to exist..."
"Aries!" Vivian laughed, her hands full of clothing shopping bags and Aislinn and Emily in tow. "Sorry about that, stranger," Viv said with a smile, all her teeth gleaming while walking toward us. "Once you get this guy going on about something deeper than the standard issues he starts o drone."
I raised one eyebrow at her, but did not stand. "Thank you, Vivian." I told her, mock in my voice.
"You're very welcome!" She said, teasing as she sat her things down on the stone floor and glided to the windows to shove open the thick curtains. "Geez, Aries, what are you, a vampire?" She was still teasing. But the room lit up with twilight sun. I took a deep breath for patience, then smiled. Emily and Aislinn settled in on the other dark green couch, both very curious about the situation.
"Yes, forgive me. I lose myself in these things. Guess the rambling comes with age." I said. In the background I heard "Old man that doesn't shut-up" sing from Vivian's strong voice. She came back into the room and perched herself on the armrest closet to me. "This is Vivian, Aislinn, and Emily." I gestured to each slightly in their turn. "Ladies, we have Kioshi visiting us today."
"Pleasure." Aislinn's very Irish accent musically filled the room with the one word. She was smiling, too, but cautious.
