Nestled into the Umpqua Forest, Eugene, Oregon is a very busy college town that bustles about 24/7. A very rainy urban oasis in the middle of dense green forest. Within this town, among the unsuspecting human race, live vampires, just like anywhere else in the world. Currently staying on the Northern outskirts are a coven of governing vampires dedicated to the keeping of the Code. The Code is the vampire law that all vampires must abide. Of course, there are delinquents.
Live as a vampire or human in the world of Ashen Nights. Abide by the Code or break it and face the consequences. Create your own coven or your own empire... For the vampire, the whole world is a playground.

Transformation and Neophytes « Thread Started on Jun 12, 2008, 2:51am »
I wrote this after just rolling out of bed. After reading it for the first time nearly fourteen hours later, I see all my mistakes. Ignore the mistakes for the time being (grammar, spelling, etc.)
So, to answer your question. Yes, humans can get bit and turned into vampires here. Here's the info...
The Transformation The transformation of human to vampire is very, very painful. The process lasts for at least a day or two, but can take up to a week. The length of time depends on how strong the body is, how strong the heart is, the amount of venom that is in the bloodstream, and where the wounds were sustained. The stronger the body, the longer it takes...
If the vampire finds a main artery or vein to bite, the venom that leaks into the bloodstream will work much faster than random wounds into the flesh. A vampire's venom is meant to incapacitate prey. So during the transformation, the victim is essencially unable to move, let alone think coherent thoughts.
During the time of transformation, the skin hardens slightly and the heart stops. The process of the heart stopping is painful in itself. You really are having cardiac arrest. The body just doesn't die after the heart attack. The muscles gain their inhuman strength now. Sometimes the eye color changes.
Transformation doesn't end with the pain though. After you regain coherency and are able move about freely, you will be nauseous. You will empty your stomach off all human food through vomiting. After your digestive tract/bladder have been completly emtied, you will never have to use the toilet again. Unless you eat/drink human food, by which then you'll just vomit again. This process takes about three days.
The fat cells dissapear rapidly. Your body uses it up as a last reseve of nourishment. The skin tightens and pales once the blood stored in your body, your own blood, gets used up. This process can take up to a month.
During all that time, your teeth will become lose and fall out. Replacing those teeth within about twelve hours of losing all your human ones, are perfectly white, perfectly straight razor-sharp teeth complete with your own set of fangs. Which are just elongated canine teeth. The size of fangs varies from all people. This process starts immediately after being bit.
The Vampire's Weakness Vampires are slaves to their instincts, victims of their bloodlust. You cannot just walk up to any vampire as ask to be one yourself. One the vampire tastes blood on his lips he probably will not be able to let go. Only about nine percent of all vampires-to-be do make it through the first stage, the bite. The other 91% are killed, even accidentally. Blood is simply too unresistable. Even for the strongest vampires at times. Do not think you are guaranteed to survive.
Even if the vampire lets go. The human remains bleeding, the vampire still tastes blood in his mouth. There is truley no reason for a vampire to just remain in control... the vampire may just simply feed again, finishing the job and ending the life that was once a candidate for immortality.
The Venom As mentioned before, the venom is designed to incapacitate. The venom acts as saliva and is always present in the vampires mouth. The vampire produces more venom involuntary when he is experiencing extream emotion such as thirst, fear, or anger.
The venom, regardless of where it enters the body, feels like thousands of peircing objects tearing into the flesh, under the flesh, cracking-breaking bones... or simply, the worst physical pain one would ever feel. Ever. Roll in a pool of glass shards? Eat them and shove them through your bones while being ripped apart limb from limb? Yeah, it's worse than that feeling. The feeling will last as long as the transformation lasts, about two to seven days. It starts to wane towards the end, however. If the human survives this pain, (one normally screams for mercy the entire time, the now-hungry vampire normally complies), the transformation is finished.
The First Twenty-Five Years Are hard, simply put. The vampire is more wild animal than controled being. It takes about 80-150 years to start real self-control. But the new vampire may begin to grasp celf-control at about twenty-five years. Some take less time, some take more.
The smell of blood is unresistable. Once one smells even the slightest amount of blood there is really thought process anymore. Just the burning desire to feed.
The Sire The Sire is a vampire that has changed a human, whether that vampire be male or female. Now the Sire has responsibilites. Kind of like taking care of a child, or babysitting. It is a commitment. The Sire must teach the neophyte about the new world they entered while helping them to control their instincts. An out of control neophyte can mean a visit from Aries.
